Quick Tips For Buying Cedar Chests
1. Cedar chests are some of the most beautiful furniture pieces to be found in any home. Buying one puts you in a club of discerning consumers. Cedar is the most durable and majestic of woods. Because of cedar's natural qualities, cedar chests are very resistant to cracking or decay, and cedar's oils act as a natural insect repellent. You'll love the warmth and enchantment of your cedar chest.
2. Cedar chests have a beautiful external appearance, but they're designed to keep their greatest pleasures inside. Add a few comfort items to the objects you store in your cedar chest. You'll remember those fall and winter moments when you pulled oversize comfy sweaters from your cedar chest. Cedar chests are a great hideaway for books or quilted blankets. Pull pillows and stuffed animals out when your child holds a sleepover. With a cedar chest in your home, comfort is always in store.
3. Cedar is a lovely aromatic wood, but sometimes cedar chests can lose the richness of that aroma as the wood's pores become clogged with dust and dirt. If that occurs, try using a cedar oil extract or spray. Or if you have woodworking experience, a very light sanding - always with the grain of the wood - could help rejuvenate your older cedar chest. A little trick for the interior: wipe it with a wet rag and leave the top open. The evaporating water will draw the aromatic oils closer to the surface.
4. When caring for cedar chests, never use furniture polishes with wax in them. The wax will build up on the surface and cause cloudiness that dulls your finish. Also, always spray the polish on a towel and not directly on the cedar chest. This will prevent over saturation and insure an even application.
5. Over time, cedar chests will become a part of the very memories they contain. If you have children, make it a part of talking about those moments. As your cedar chest becomes a family heirloom, even its smell will bring to mind those cherished times.
6. For all cedar chests that have fabric tops, make sure you spray the fabric with a fabric protectant. We recommend DCS 19 Fabric Protectant and DCS 19 Cleaner. This package deal can be found on the Accessories tab of fabric-topped chests and are offered to you at Checkout.
